Righteous Rocket Repair

Typecast175

Post-Script: This was a fun day; I photographed, edited and uploaded two videos; and wrote and posted two blog articles - and fixed my Rocket! The other blog article and video are about my film canister pinhole camera project.

  1. Very nice video and congratulations on your successful repair.
I'm not all that experienced in typewriter repairs either, but I do find a good cleaning and a bit of re-lubing either solves many problems or exposes many problems to simple repairs.

Another great addition to your video series. I think about 90% of my typewriter problems have been due to dirt, rust, and gunk. A thorough cleaning is a good first step into investigating strange typewriter behavior.

How about a video on uppercase and lowercase text alignment adjustments? I think you mentioned in a previous post that you had successfully adjusted a Smith-Corona.

  3. Excellent video again! I've been working on a Rocket with just exactly that problem, so this is very timely. I will have to check out the rack and how it meshes with the gear. (:

    Thanks!

  4. Great video, Joe! Very helpful, inspires me to give some repairs a try! One key point: don't lose those case screws! And beware little springs that seem to just leap out of the inside of your typewriter!

  5. Joe, that video is so great. I remember reading in Richard Polt's fantatstic "Typewriter Revolution" describing the uppercase / lowercase adjustment that I fixed this problem on my Hermes Baby - made me feel so proud :-)

And now seeing your great video I will check my Gossen Tippa and the Baby - both have the skipping problem, too. Thank you so much!

  6. Joe, last weekend I took my Hermes Baby, watched your video again and corrected the lever just with my fingers and a little pressure. Then writing a 4 pages letter I had no skipping at all. Thank you so much for your kind sharing.
