Down Sizing?
I've come up with a tentative list of typewriters to give away:
I think it's a fair question to ask: once I clear out these twenty or so typers, does this mean I'll be making room for another round of collecting? Well, at this point my intentions are to maintain a much smaller collection, more conducive to a "semi-minimalist" approach to being a typewriter-oriented creative. But, as always, I reserve the right to change my mind, sometime down the road. Perhaps, if that "dream machine" presented itself, I'd consider adding to the collection. But I'd like for my collection to be practically functional, focused on using for the purposes of creativity, rather than hoarding.

That is very generous Joe! A very nice list of some fine typewriters.
Hey Joe! I've been following your blog for the last few months, love the thoughts. I'm actually from ABQ originally and have been wanting to plan a trip back. Participating in the type-in would be a great opportunity to do so. I'll be watching for details and see if I can get down there for it.
It's great fun to acquire all sorts of typewriters, explore them, and discover which are worth keeping — to type on, or for love of their aesthetic or historical or mechanical characteristics. Those we don't love should find new homes. At least, that's what I keep telling myself . . . .
Well said! It's fun to go hunting, but when you bring home a new typewriter, then you realize there's no room and no need for it. So you get rid of some. I'm slowly selling mine, but only if they work decently. As you say, almost every one of them has some problem. Then again, that's a big part of the fun - to repair them and keep them working for someone, somewhere, sometime...
I am going through the same downsizing thing. Got my laptop's keyboard back to English after my cat changed it to German! I managed to sell a few last year at Herman's but have since acquired a few more.
I'd love the chance to visit and talk typewriters, though I'm not sure if I want/need any more machines myself! If any of the other Phoenician typewriter folk (Bill Wahl or Ted Munk) are going and I can get a ride, I'd love to!
Hmmn, tempting. Just wish I had access to a car capable of cross-state travel :P
Nice post. I'm surprised to see you listed the Webster xl 747. I've seen that in a lot of your videos. At the mountains and at the parks typing. Wondering if you have a second one you are keeping?
