There's definitely a place for different types of machine. I use a standard Remington KHM for heavy work at home, a Lexikon for heavy work at the office. Robert and I just took a portable to the hardware store to make a note of how many grommets of various prices he was buying. We got to use the @ sign in its traditional sense!
PS: The kitchen typer can also type up the shopping list.
